PTI Supporters Gather in Large Numbers as March Moves Forward
KOHAT, PAKISTAN — October 6, 2026: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march toward Islamabad has entered its third day, with the convoy led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi continuing its journey after reaching Kohat.
The march, which began from Lakki Marwat on October 4, is being held amid heightened political tensions in Pakistan. PTI supporters are demanding the release of party founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, while the party has also raised concerns over political, constitutional and security-related issues.
The convoy reached the Lachi area of Kohat on Monday after travelling from Karak. Sohail Afridi addressed supporters and thanked residents for what he described as a strong reception. He also called on people from Kohat and surrounding districts to participate in the next stage of the march.
March Resumes from Kohat
According to the announced schedule, supporters from Kohat, Hangu, Kurram and Orakzai are expected to join the caravan as it moves onward toward Peshawar.
The next major destination is Peshawar, with the convoy expected to spend the night near Mattani before continuing its planned route. The schedule announced by the KP chief minister indicates that the march will subsequently move through Peshawar and toward the Charsadda Interchange and Khairabad.
The movement has attracted supporters from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding to the size of the convoy as it progresses.
Sohail Afridi Calls for Continued Mobilisation
While addressing supporters in Kohat, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said the political struggle would require sustained mobilisation and urged participants not to become exhausted.
He has repeatedly presented the march as a political and constitutional movement and has criticised federal policies concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly those related to counterterrorism and military operations.
Afridi has also called on PTI supporters across the province to continue joining the movement as the convoy moves toward its next destinations.
Imran Khan's Release Remains a Central Demand
The release of PTI founder Imran Khan remains one of the central demands associated with the march.
PTI says the movement is intended to press for political and constitutional rights while seeking the release of Khan and other political prisoners. The march follows unsuccessful talks between PTI and the federal government over a number of disputed issues.
International and Pakistani media reports have also highlighted the political tensions surrounding Khan's imprisonment and the government's response to the PTI mobilisation.
From Lakki Marwat to Kohat
The long march began on October 4 from Gandi Chowk in Lakki Marwat. Supporters from several southern districts, including Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, South Waziristan, North Waziristan and Bannu, were scheduled to join the first phase.
The caravan then moved toward Karak, where participants stayed overnight. On October 5, the march resumed from Karak and travelled toward Kohat, where the convoy halted for the night.
The route announced by the KP leadership shows that the march is being conducted in several stages, with supporters from different districts joining at designated locations.
Political Tensions Remain High
The PTI march is taking place against the backdrop of continued political tensions between the federal government and the opposition party.
The government has expressed concerns about maintaining law and order and has taken security measures in anticipation of possible demonstrations. Reports have also indicated restrictions and heightened security in several areas as the march progresses.
PTI, meanwhile, maintains that peaceful political protest is a constitutional right and has urged its supporters to remain part of the movement.
What Comes Next?
The march's announced schedule indicates that the convoy will move from Kohat toward Peshawar on October 6, with supporters from additional districts expected to join.
On October 7, the caravan is scheduled to continue from the Peshawar area toward the Charsadda Interchange, while October 8 is expected to bring participants from Charsadda and Mohmand into the movement. PTI leadership has indicated that a larger gathering is expected at Khairabad, where the next phase of the movement will be discussed.
The final direction and scale of the march toward Islamabad will depend on developments on the ground, political decisions and the security situation.
Public Response
The atmosphere among PTI supporters remains highly charged, with participants expressing strong support for Imran Khan and the party's political campaign.
Social media posts associated with the march have used slogans such as “Awami Samandar Sarakon Par” — referring to a large public presence on the roads — to highlight supporter participation.
However, independent estimates of the total number of participants can vary significantly, and the actual size of the crowds may change as the convoy moves through different districts.
